à quels besoins poétiques ou romantiques correspond le «ruin porn » dont toute une frange de jeunes artistes et penseurs semblent puiser matière à création ou excitation?<br />Comment analyser ce potentiel d’attraction inclu dans une tradition qui remonte déjà à la peinture romantique d’un Hubert Robert ou alors plus récemment dans les interventions d’un Gordon Matta-Clark ?<br />Entre la Mélancolie de la pierre et la tranquillité des espaces évacués, quelle est l’odeur de la charogne de l’ère industrielle et la forme des squelettes d’utopies ?<br /><br /><br />Samedi 21 janvier 2012, c’est mon premier jour au Chili après 10 ans d’absence.<br />Je suis ici chez moi mais je parle avec un accent et les mots dans ma tête ne trouvent pas toujours leur forme hispanique.<br />Une partie de ma famille m’escorte dans ces premiers moments à la Galeria Metropolitana, l’espace qui accueille notre Traversée axolotienne, un projet d’exposition-résidence à travers les géographies chiliennes.<br /><br />Nous sommes en avance, le groupe n’est pas encore là.<br />La galerie est comme un hangar en tôle ondulée, il n’y a ni galeriste à grandes lunettes derrière un mac ni paroies blanches qui délimitent un espace et dès que l’on arrive sur ce bout de trottoir en région métropolitaine (Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Santiago), on se sent bien.<br />Loin des quartiers gentrifiés où la pseudo bohème et autres hipsters se complaisent dans des messes narcissiques, existe un espace qui propose et construit des situations de travail et de création qui ont déjà pu êtres explorées par des artistes tels que Juan Castillo, Alicia Villarreal, Alfredo Jaar, Ingrid Wildi Merino ou encore Thomas Hirschorn (pour n’en citer que quelques uns !).<br /><br />Luis « Zapallo » Alacron qui orchestre la Galeria Metropolitana avec sa femme Ana Maria Saavedra, me souhaite la bienvenue alors qu’un groupe de jeunes comédiens chiliens s’affaire dans l’espace où ce soir ils vont présenter «Ochagavia», la création d’un jeune dramaturge chilien Tomas Henriquez, qui rend hommage à l’Hôpital voisin surnommé un peu partout à la ronde « El Elefante blanco ».<br /><br />« El Elefante blanco » est le bâtiment de mes obsessions et l’objet de mon travail durant La Traversée. Mon prétexte en contexte. Une manière pour moi de revenir au Chili, mon pays d’origine où je n’ai jamais vécu.<br />De la pierre, retracer le fil d’une narration, explorer des situations, rencontrer des gens, questionner le temps.<br />L’éléphant est aujourd’hui une ruine de ce qui autrefois devait être un énorme hôpital social « El Hospital del Empleado » ainsi qu’il aurait dû être initialement baptisé. Une initiative fruit des gouvernements successifs d’Eduardo Frei Montvaldo et de Salvador Allende qui fut hélas avorté par le coup d’état militaire de 1973.<br />L’arrivée de la dictature au pouvoir figeant à jamais (?) la possibilité d’un relais médical dans cette région de la ville qui en a fortement besoin.<br /><br />« El Elefante blanco » est aussi le nom que l’on donne au Chili ou en Amérique du Sud aux grands projets architecturaux qui n’ont jamais vu le jour faute de moyens. Pour le cas de l’Hopital Ochagavia, il s’agit plutôt d’un vestige brut, un monument involontaire, témoin de ce qu’aurait pu être un Chili plus social et éthique notamment dans le droit à l’accès aux soins.<br /><br />Les garçons de la troupe portent des marcels et des chaussettes rouges, les filles de longs cheveux noirs.<br />La nuit tombe doucement et mes amis arrivent.<br />Nous nous prenons dans les bras.<br />Louise dit « ça fait bizarre de te voir ici », les autres demandent si je suis bien arrivée. Ils sourient, moi aussi. Certains débouchent des Escudos, des bières en canette. Dafne a un tricot rouge, elle me fait rire et ses cheveux sont ondulés. Ma cousine parle de sa voix rauque, elle fait connaissance avec certains artistes du groupe. Ma tante explique à mes amis que ma mère était infirmière à l’Hôpital de San Bernardo et qu’elle a quitté le Chili au début des années 80.<br />Zapallo installe un petit écran sur le trottoir devant la Galerie et la projection d’un documentaire intitulé <span style="font-style: italic;">El Elefante blanco</span> (2010) débute. C’est Felipe Egana Kaulen, un étudiant en cinéma à l’Universidad de Chile qui l’a réalisé. Il s’agit d’une dérive poétique sur le lieu au sein duquel il n’est jamais parvenu à rentrer. Une succession de récits et témoignages des voisins qui racontent leurs histoires et l’Histoire.<br />Après la projection, il m’explique le tournage et les énormes investigations qu’il a effectuées pour aboutir son documentaire. Son travail de fouille dans les archives, ses interviews avec les voisins. Malgré sa boucle d’oreille au lobe gauche et sa coupe à tendance mulet, je trouve qu’il est d’une beauté subtile et j’aime sa manière de parler dans la nuit. Je ponctue ses phrases par des « si..si..verdad ? ».<br />Décidément, ce que je pensais être une obsession personnelle s’avère être une quête partagée par toute une clique de jeunes chiliens qu’ils soient dramaturges, comédiens ou encore photographes. Cette ruine gigantesque agit comme un aimant, comme un vecteur moteur de créations.<br />Quelques jours plus tard, en fouillant dans les archives de la galerie Metropolitana avec Zapallo et Betania Alvarez (une jeune artiste de PAC ayant beaucoup exploré les récits et interventions autour de l’hôpital), nous découvrons une ribambelle de pratiques interventionnistes et situées dans le contexte du lieu et ceci depuis 1989 avec l’incroyable performance <span style="font-style: italic;">Cautivos</span> de l’artiste et écrivain queer chilien Pedro Lemebel et les vidéos de Lotty Rosenfeld.<br />Dans les sous-sol de l’hopital, Pedro Lemebel pieds nus met le feu à des petits foyers situés sur son corps. Une action fugace et simple qui exprime la tension du climat politique qui régnait dans ses années de fin de dictature. Peut-êttre aussi une forme d’autodafé par rapport à la condition homosexuelle dans une situation de répression telle que l’avait instauré le régime de Pinochet.<br />Lotty Rosenfled, qui intervient dans l’hôpital le même jour et en parallèle à l’action de Lemebel, présente une série de vidéos qui documentent le plébiscite électoral de 1989.<br />Un supperposition de flammes, de pieds nus et de quelques témoins de l’avant-garde artistique chilienne.<br />Depuis, Leonardo Portus (<span style="font-style: italic;">Cinquos Lugares de Santiago</span>, 2002), Monica Rojas et Ana Maria Illabonca (<span style="font-style: italic;">Obra Gruesa</span>, 2003), Alicia Villaral (<span style="font-style: italic;">La esenanza de la geografia</span>, 2010), Cristobal Gazmuni (<span style="font-style: italic;">Ochagavia</span>, 2011), Betania Alvarez (2010), et d’autres encore, poursuivent la tradition de travaux artistiques en relation avec l’hôpital. De la sorte, il continuent à alimenter les mythologies ochagaviennes et construisent des mémoires d’éléphant à un fœtus de bâtiment.<br /><br />La ruine chaque jour un peu plus anéantie est aujourd’hui propriété de l’Immobiliaria Mapocho SA qui espère une fois trouver les fonds pour construire sur les restes des idéaux marxistes, un centre commercial au milieu d’un des quartiers les plus pauvres de Santiago.<br /><br />« It is an empty desolate place, and I’m sure it is this desolation that makes dungeness so utterly attractive : that in its emptiness it can become so FULL » disaient Jane et Louise Wilson dans un interview qu’elles ont accordé à William Leith pour The Independent. Et je pense que c’est bien de cela qu’il s’agit ; la possibilité de la ruine comme un espace possible de projection et reconstructions mentales. Remplir de contenant poétique un signifié dématérialisé par le temps, la violence ou les exigences du marché néo-libéral.<br />Du défait et de l’inquiétante étrangeté reprendre le fil d’une narration fictive (?) et poétique, matière de potentialités futures ancrées dans les filigranes de l’histoire passée et présente.<br />C’est ce que nos pratiques, aussi potaches soient elles, tentent de faire. Je marche dans les rues de Santiago. A ma droite un bâtiment de 20 étages, à ma gauche une église qui se repose sur des échafaudages, fatiguée par le terromotto. Je trébuche sur un nid de poule au milieu de la rue, m’approche d’une poubelle et la fouille, rien d’intéressant sinon le vestige d’une cazuela. Je continue sur la gauche, trouve enfin un peu d’ombre. Je me couche sur le sol un peu frais. Je suis tranquille ici. Je lève la tête et croise un ami. Nous nous mettons en route, sans rien nous dire. Son odeur me rappelle la mienne, en plus âcre. Nous avons faim. La force de l’habitude nous mène vers une certaine cocineria (la patronne nous déteste et nous foutera pour sure dehors). J’arrive quand même à grignoter un peu de pescado frito qui traine par terre. Mon "ami" essaye de me le prendre et nous nous engueulons. Durante sus estudios comienza a establecer contactos con artistas locales y de diversos orígenes que, como él, deciden instalarse temporal -o definitivamente- en Suiza. Estos encuentros y confrontaciones le hacen reflexionar sobre los fines y efectos de aquellas numerosas situaciones de desarraigo voluntario en el campo del arte contemporáneo. Una vez sus estudios terminados además de un proyecto de residencia en Ginebra, decide volver a Chile. La red de artistas y de trabajos artísticos constituidos en torno a él da lugar a diversas colaboraciones, invitaciones y exposiciones en Suiza, en Chile, en Francia y Alemania. Es en este cuadro que Valenzuela conoce a Sébastien Leseigneur, joven artista francés establecido en Lausana desde el año 2008. El también viaja a Suiza con el fin de realizar un master en artes visuales (ECAL, Ecole Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne), prolongando su estadía al final de sus estudios. Es así como comienzan a discutir sobre sus prácticas artísticas y una sensibilidad común a los desplazamientos geográficos y al viaje, a lo que ello genera (en general y en el campo del arte en particular). En el curso de una discusión, Leseigneur comenta que tuvo la posibilidad de conocer personalmente en 2005, en Francia, a los directores de una de las galerías donde Valenzuela había expuesto el año 2003 (Galería Metropolitana) en Santiago de Chile. Esta coincidencia, con aires a internacionalismo y globalización, dan cuenta nuevamente de relaciones entre proximidad y distancia en el mundo contemporáneo, relaciones multidireccionales que además generan increíbles posibilidades de nexos y de redes internacionales que devienen el punto de partida de un intercambio intenso entre los dos artistas. Este intercambio se materializa ahora en un proyectode residencia y exposición colectiva. Por su parte, Marie-Luce Ruffieux es una artista y escritora suiza establecida en Lausana. Posee un diploma en artes visuales de la HEAD, Haute Ecole d’Art et Design de Ginebra. Ella ha colaborado con Sébastien Leseigneur en diversas exposiciones. Ella se une al proyecto La travesía del axolotl como curadora asociada. Su trabajo interroga el nexo entre el objeto y el lenguaje. Se interesa en las historias que subyacen ligadas a los objetos en general y a los objetos de arte. Su relación a la ficción y al principio de “narrar” objetos producidos o encontrados encuentran un eco particular en la puesta en escena de una eventual narración.<br /></span></div><div style="font-family:arial;"><span><br /></span></div><div face="arial"><span>EL PROYECTO<br />La Galería Metropolitana ha propuesto “Arte y mercado (s)” como tema curatorial para el año 2012. Para responder a la invitación que la galería nos ha hecho, proponemos La Travesía del Axolotl, un proyecto de viaje, residencia y exposición realizado por 10 artistas, tres suizos, tres franceses, tres chilenos y un alemán. Una residencia de tres semanas de duración entre las ciudades de Santiago (donde se encuentra la Galería Metropolitana desde su creación) y la ciudad de Concepción (ciudad donde los directores abrirán un nuevo espacio, un satélite de residencias y encuentros) dará lugar a una exposición. Esta experiencia de grupo asociará diversas prácticas (documentos, films, narraciones, instalaciones y performances). Estas serán consideradas como diversas posibilidades de exploración de la historia, del presente y del territorio, entre otros.<br />El título propuesto se propone como un juego de tensiones, anulaciones, “detournements”, contradicciones y confrontaciones entre las imágenes que sugieren, por una parte la travesía, y por otra el axolotl.<br /><span style="font-style:italic"></span></span></div><div face="arial"><span><span style="font-style:italic"><br /></span></span></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><span><span style="font-style:italic"><span style="font-weight: bold;">El principio del axolotl</span> (según Gilles A. Tiberghien, a partir del cuento “Axolotl” de J. Cortázar)</span><br />Según Cortázar el axolotl tiene una “voluntad secreta: abolir el tiempo y el espacio”. El axolotl es un pequeño anfibio que pasa toda su vida en un estado larvario sin jamás metamorfosearse, sin jamás acceder al estado adulto. Tiberghien se apoya en esta singularidad del axolotl para desarrollar, por comparación, una serie de reflexiones sobre el viajero, sobre el estado de espíritu propio del viajero, sobre el viaje. Las características que manifiestan la “inmadurez congénita” del axolotl nos permite concluir que realiza, de una cierta manera, “el tipo de niño eterno, suspendido en el umbral de las formas jamás resueltas”. En el cuadro de este proyecto, si asimilamos los artistas a los axolotls, no se trata de, según lo que se espera de una travesía, ir al recuentro de la alteridad, sino más bien de<br />confrontarse ante una inversión de roles, o más bien una disolución de la relación sujeto-objeto, propia de un proceso investigativo.<br /><span style="font-style:italic"></span></span></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><span><span style="font-style:italic"><br /></span></span></div><div style="font-family: arial;"><span><span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;">Travesías. La escuela de arquitectura de Valparaíso</span><br />Otro punto de partida de este proyecto es nuestra curiosidad común relacionada a ciertas actividades realizadas por la escuela de arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Valparaíso y las ideas que dichas actividades despertaron y despiertan hoy en día. Durante los años sesenta, miembros de la mencionada escuela (artistas, poetas, arquitectos de diferentes nacionalidades) efectúan diversas travesías en grupo en territorio latinoamericano. En desplazamiento, ellos escriben, fotografían, relevan información e instalan exposiciones efímeras. Estas experiencias de desplazamiento en comunidad – muy próximas de aquellas realizadas en la misma época por los situacionistas en Europa– pueden ser leídas como tentativas de apropiación del territorio. Con el fin de presentar sus trabajos, ellos construyen pabellones. Inventan así sus propios espacios en los que exponen sus ideas y posiciones en formas de dibujos, fotografías, maquetas, conferencias, etc.<br />Numerosos modelos alternativos nacen en Chile y en Latinoamérica que ameritan ser reconsiderados tanto en sus fundamentos teóricos como también en sus proyectos concretos, realizados o irrealizables, utópicos o funcionales. <strong>MESA8</strong> es un grupo de trabajo compuesto por artistas, profesionales de arte y gestores culturales de la región del Bío Bío, Constituye una plataforma de trabajo asociativa, destinada fundamentalmente a la gestión y producción de acciones que involucran a la práctica artística y su implicación con problemáticas directas y atingentes. Su propósito es explorar diferentes ámbitos de las artes visuales, tanto en su relación con la comunidad, organizaciones ciudadanas e iniciativas artísticas.</div>

Entre sus objetivos está la consolidación de una masa crítica consistente en el ámbito de la producción artística contemporánea, posicionando el esquema organizativo como un núcleo generador de iniciativas a diversa escala, potenciando el intercambio entre agentes vinculados al ámbito artístico y la comunidad. Fruto de la interacción generada al interior de la agrupación, ha brotado el impulso de poner en marcha la experimentación con determinadas prácticas que escapan a la delimitación disciplinaria tradicional, y que por tanto suponen una reformulación de las prácticas artísticas, su circuito y los modos considerados para su sociabilización y/o recepción.</div>
